COLD IRONING ACTIVITIES CONTINUE ACROSS THE MEDITERRANEAN
Cold Ironing is one of the key solutions for reducing the environmental impact of maritime transport. By allowing ships to connect to shore-side electricity while berthed, it helps reduce energy consumption, emissions and noise in port areas.
In this field, DBA has been involved for several years in the design of shore power systems, supporting the energy transition of port infrastructure. Among the projects nearing completion is the one at the Port of Limassol, Cyprus, developed within the European DECARBONLIM initiative and promoted by the Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA) with the support of Frederick University. The Group is currently engaged in the final detailed design phase, following the approval of the preliminary and final design stages.
In Italy, activities aimed at the electrification of port infrastructure are also progressing. In Syracuse, the Porto Grande project combines electrical infrastructure, ship-to-shore connections and renewable energy sources, with the goal of supporting the port's decarbonization and improving its energy sustainability.
These activities complement the Onshore Power Supply (OPS) systems already designed by DBA for the ports of Naples, Salerno, Civitavecchia and Sardinia, further expanding the Group's expertise in Cold Ironing and in the development of infrastructure that supports the energy transition of the port sector.
