Call for Proposals: COLLABORA & INNOVA
Action: 1.1.3. “Support for the implementation of complex research, development and innovation projects”
Beneficiary: DBA S.p.A.
Project Title: DONO
Description: Engineered organs to give hope to those awaiting transplantation.
To introduce, within the healthcare industry, an advanced solution for organ transplantation that has a positive impact on improving patients’ quality of life, reducing hospitalization times and associated costs, with a focus on environmental sustainability, supporting the emergence of start-ups, and enhancing employment within companies and research.
General Objective:
To develop organ engineering for xenotransplantation that ensures optimal performance in overcoming immunological barriers and achieving metabolic and functional compatibility, while also reducing the risk of transmission of PERV and PCMV. Through industrial research activities (engineering of living organisms, development of innovative pathogen detection platforms, and engineering design), supported by in vitro studies and ex vivo perfusion of kidneys from engineered subjects using the most advanced technologies, the project aims to achieve the following three main objectives:
I) Creation of organs for xenotransplantation;
II) Development of an innovative multiplex sensor platform based on microarray technology for the detection of pathogenic organisms.
