The project concerns the testing and deployment of the Port Tracking software module within the Port Community System (PCS) of the Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea (Port of Naples), aimed at tracking containers transiting through the port, sharing data with the systems of the Italian Customs Agency, and managing the exit process for trucks carrying full containers.

The initiative is part of the logistics digitalization program funded by the PNRR, with the objective of automating gate processes, improving traffic fluidity, and increasing the level of control and security across the port supply chain.

The solution enables real-time supervision of logistics flows at port gates, automating the “visto uscire” (exit clearance) process for export/import containers and supporting operational coordination between terminal operators, the Port Authority, and customs systems. The system acquires data from the CONATECO, SOTECO, and Flavio Gioia terminals, sharing them through the PCS with ADM for validation of outbound flows at the Bausan Gate.

Key distinguishing elements of the project include direct integration with real-time customs processes, automation of port gate controls, and a high level of interoperability between heterogeneous systems, within the framework of a strategic logistics digitalization initiative promoted by the PNRR.

Technologies and standards used

The solution is integrated with the reused PCS platform (TPCS), deployed on PSN cloud infrastructure and interoperable with ADM systems for customs and Port Tracking process management.

The architecture includes integration with dedicated gate hardware infrastructures for access control and automatic transit reading, as well as terminal systems and public platforms. Data exchange is performed through structured data flows between terminals, PCS, and ADM, ensuring operational continuity and real-time synchronization of logistics flows.

The system is supported by 24/7 help desk and operational monitoring services and developed in compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 standards.

Benefits and results

The project enabled the activation of the Port Tracking module at the Port of Naples, introducing digitalized and integrated management of outbound container flows.

The solution improved end-to-end traceability of containers, reducing processing times and procedural complexity at port gates while increasing the automation level of customs controls. Integration between terminal operators, PCS, and ADM also enhanced security, transparency, and operational fluidity of port traffic.

The platform also provides an evolutionary foundation for future PCS developments and the extension of additional digital services supporting port logistics.

DBA carried out the supply, configuration, and integration activities for the Port Tracking module within the Port Community System (PCS), ensuring interoperability with the hardware systems at Bausan Gate and with ADM customs systems.

Activities included technical coordination with ADM and SOGEI for integration of customs processes, monitoring and validation of data flows from port terminals, and support for the operational deployment of the solution within the PSN environment during testing and production rollout phases.

DBA also provided application support services and 1st and 2nd level help desk assistance, supporting operators during the testing, tuning, and optimization phases of the system. Activities covered the entire platform deployment lifecycle, from configuration and integration through testing and go-live.
