Cold Ironing: Port of Siracusa

Client: Regione Siciliana

Services in this project:
  • Technical design

Technical design developed by DBA for the construction of a Cold Ironing system serving cruise ships at the Porto Grande of Siracusa.

The intervention included the electrification of the berts through the installation of a Shore Power Substation (CEB), as well as ship-to-shore power distribution and connection systems.

The project stands out for the integration of renewable energy generation systems, including ground-mounted and rooftop photovoltaic installations, in addition to the upgrading of lighting systems and existing infrastructure.

Particular attention was devoted to optimizing the interventions through the reuse of existing infrastructure and to minimizing environmental and landscape impacts.

The project represents a strategic milestone in the decarbonization pathway of the Sicilian port system, significantly contributing to emissions reduction and to the overall sustainability improvement of the infrastructure.

Cold Ironing quay electrification projects are developed in BIM, through shared and georeferenced multidisciplinary models that integrate design, coordination and information management. This methodology ensures continuous updating, control of clashes between disciplines and higher quality, while reducing errors and delivery times. The model includes temporal (4D) and cost (5D) dimensions, enabling simulations, cost estimates and information continuity throughout the entire design process.
