Integrated environmental monitoring system – Port of Taranto

Client: CISA SpA (beneficiario finale ADSP Mar Ionio)

Services in this project:
  • Software development

The project involves the development of a digital platform for integrated environmental monitoring of the Port of Taranto area, aimed at assessing the environmental quality of the land–sea system and supporting operational decision-making. It is set within a highly complex environmental context, with the objective of providing stakeholders (Port Authority, public bodies, operators) with an advanced tool for the sustainable management of port activities through continuous monitoring and predictive analysis of environmental parameters.

The solution is based on the DBA Green+ platform, an integrated environmental monitoring system built on IoT and Big Data Analytics technologies.

The system enables:

  • Real-time acquisition and integration of data from environmental sensors and external sources
  • Storage and management of large data volumes (Big Data)
  • Advanced analytics and development of predictive models
  • Information visualization through web dashboards and georeferenced systems
  • Decision Support System (DSS) for port operations management

The platform is designed to ensure scalability, interoperability, and high availability, enabling the future integration of additional sensors, systems, and monitoring areas.

Key project features

The project stands out for its ability to integrate heterogeneous data from environmental sensors, port information systems, and predictive models, transforming traditional monitoring into a dynamic and predictive system. The platform implements a Decision Support System (DSS) supporting both operational and strategic decision-making, with advanced 3D representation and Digital Twin capabilities. The system operates in a highly complex and environmentally sensitive context, ensuring service continuity, operational reliability, and data quality.

Technologies and standards used

The solution is based on the proprietary DBA Green+ platform, developed with a microservices architecture and integrated with IoT technologies for real-time data acquisition and management. The system leverages Big Data Analytics tools and predictive models, supported by NoSQL databases for large-scale data handling. A Cloud SaaS infrastructure ensures high scalability and accessibility, while georeferencing and advanced visualization systems—such as web GIS and 3D environments—enable an integrated view of information. The platform is also interoperable with external models, including hydrodynamic and forecasting systems.

Benefits and results

The project enables continuous and integrated environmental quality monitoring, improving impact prediction capabilities and effectively supporting operational and strategic decision-making by port authorities. The availability of structured, real-time data enhances the timely management of critical events and contributes to the reduction of environmental risks. The platform also supports the optimization of port activities in a sustainability-oriented perspective, creating an evolving data foundation for future planning and port development.
