- Final design
Urgent works for securing the port structure of the Terrare Quay, realization of RO-RO berth at the Costa Morena, in the Port of Brindisi.
The relief carried out on Terrare Quay has highlighted on the foundation level the presence of big caves caused by a huge erosion process under the caisson toe.
Caves have been classified in two types:
- the one affecting the caisson, it extends from the caisson toe to inner side;
- the other extends to the seabed immediately in front the caisson itself.
The two different caves typologies have been differently afforded and diversely resolved. Concerning the filling of the caves below the caisson, after a through cleaning, a TNT fleece was laid for the confinement of the concrete casting which filled all the empty spaces, suitably armed with hot-galvanized steel bars. On the other hand, natural rocks of various dimension, 100-200 kg and from 1 to 2 ton will be used for the caves at the caissons toe. These stones have been positioned on the seabed, directly after laying down a polypropylene geotextile layer of 700 g/sqm. The rocks thus located not only for filling the caves but also for protecting the caisson toe.
