The project has involved the construction of a new breakwater for the protection of the Taranto port harbor, west side, of a length of 500 m, consisting of natural and artificial boulders whose structure adapts to the geotechnical characteristics of the foundation.

In particular, the breakwater consists of a tout-venant core, a filter layer of natural boulders and an armour layer, consisting of two levels of tetrapods along the outer sides and on the heads and natural boulders along the inner side.

From an environmental point of view, it was necessary to perform preliminary geological-geognostic investigations, an integrative environmental characterization and a wave climate study. The DHI software was used to calculate the internal wave climate.

BIM PROJECT

This is the first unconventional project of maritime works made in Italy.

This project was drawn up in BIM: 2D/3D views, elevations and sections have been set.

The BIM use has allowed the sharing of the model by the work team and therefore the combined management and modification of the work in case of conflicts or anomalies, automatically detected, with resolution on each compartment. Also through the BIM it was possible to define the realization phases, the construction progress and the construction costs of the single elements and the cash flow forecast.
